Today, we have the pleasure of speaking with Michael Thompson, a lifelong jigsaw puzzle enthusiast who has seen the evolution of puzzles from classic cardboard pieces to the digital world. Michael, thank you for joining us!
HOST
: Let’s start from the beginning. When did your love for jigsaw puzzles begin?
GUEST
:Â I think I was around five years old when I got my first puzzle. It was a simple 24-piece puzzle of a farm scene. I remember sitting on the floor, determined to complete it, and when I finally did, I felt this immense satisfaction. From that moment, I was hooked! My parents would buy me more puzzles, and over time, the piece count kept increasing.
HOST
: What kind of puzzles did you enjoy the most as a child?
GUEST
: I loved puzzles with bright colors and interesting themes—dinosaurs, outer space, animals. As I grew older, I started enjoying more complex ones, like landscapes and famous artworks. By the time I was a teenager, I was doing 1000-piece puzzles for fun.

HOST
: You’ve spent years working on physical puzzles. When did you first try online jigsaw puzzles?
GUEST
: I was skeptical about online puzzles for a long time. I always thought, “Nothing can replace the feel of real pieces in your hands.” But a few years ago, I was traveling a lot for work and couldn’t bring my puzzles with me. That’s when I discovered digital puzzles. I tried one on my tablet, and to my surprise, I really enjoyed it!

HOST
: What was your first impression of online puzzles compared to physical ones?
GUEST
: At first, I missed the tactile experience—the sound of pieces clicking together and the process of sorting them out on a table. But after a while, I started appreciating the advantages of digital puzzles. They’re convenient, I never lose a piece, and I can take my puzzles anywhere. Plus, there are various games on the Internet, such as the Online Jigsaw Puzzle Games website!
HOST
: Do you still do physical puzzles, or have you fully switched to digital?
GUEST
: I still love physical puzzles and always will. There’s something special about seeing the completed picture laid out on a table, knowing you put it together piece by piece. But digital puzzles have their place in my life too. If I’m on the go or don’t have space for a big puzzle, I turn to online ones. It’s all about balance.
HOST
: What’s your favorite part about each type?
GUEST
: With physical puzzles, I love the process—the feel of the pieces, the sorting, and the final moment when the last piece fits in. With online puzzles, I love the convenience and variety. I can finish a quick 500-piece puzzle on my tablet while waiting at the airport or before bed.
HOST
: For those who are new to puzzles, do you have any advice?
GUEST
: Start with puzzles that interest you—whether it’s animals, landscapes, or famous paintings. Don’t be afraid to try online puzzles if you’re short on space or time. And most importantly, be patient. Puzzles teach you patience and problem-solving skills, and that’s what makes them so rewarding.
HOST
: Any final thoughts?
GUEST
: Puzzles are more than just a hobby for me—they’re a way to relax, challenge myself, and enjoy quiet moments. Whether it’s physical or digital, the joy of solving a puzzle never gets old.
